Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], August 31 (ANI): A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur in connection with her alleged derogatory remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Moitra has reportedly said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s “head should be cut off” for failing to check the infiltration of illegal Bangladeshis into India. The comments were allegedly made in Bengali during a media interaction on Thursday.
Soon after her remarks, an FIR was registered at Raipur’s Mana Camp police station under Sections 196 (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc.) and 197 (imputations prejudicial to national integration) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led a political feud over the controversy against the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader. Numerous leaders of the saffron party have strongly condemned Moitra’s remarks, asserting that it was “unparliamentary and objectionable”.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that Moitra’s comment against Shah was “unpardonable” and her party should apologise.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister said, “The unparliamentary and objectionable remark made by a Trinamool Congress MP against the Honourable Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah ji is inexcusable and highly condemnable. This remark, which reveals the political misdeeds of the Trinamool Congress, is an insult to every Indian who believes in Indian democratic values. The Trinamool Congress should immediately apologise to the entire country for this indecent remark.”
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Gopal Samanto, who is also a complainant in the FIR against the TMC MP, said that she should be boycotted from both Parliament and society.
While speaking to ANI, the complainant, Gopal Samanto, lambasted Moitra’s alleged remarks, calling for her to be “boycotted from both Parliament and society” for defaming the Bengali community.

“I got the FIR registered with a very heavy heart. Mahua Moitra belongs to my community and she is an MP. She made such an irresponsible statement against Home Minister Amit Shah…This is shamelessness. I filed a complaint against this and an FIR was registered. Such people should have no place in Parliament and they should be boycotted from society too. Such people who are defaming the Bengali community…” the BJP leader said.
Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar slammed Moitra’s remarks, saying such a statement should not have come from an elected leader.

“An FIR has been registered by a person from Chhattisgarh. She made a wrong statement. Such a statement should not have come from her… The words that Mahua Moitra used make her seem not as an elected leader… It is natural for an FIR to be filed in this matter,” Majumdar told ANI.
Reacting to the alleged remarks, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari called it “illegal”, saying action should be taken against the TMC leader.

“The kind of statement she made is something no politician or citizen should make. It is illegal. There are several provisions against it in the BNS. Action should have been taken, but it wasn’t,” Suvendu Adhikari told reporters.
BJP IT Department in-charge Amit Malviya also hit out at Trinamool Congress leader and further accused her of shocking and shameful remarks against Sanatanis, specifically targeting the Namasudra community.
He further said that the TMC leader should not be forgiven for such “communal venom”.

In a post on X, Malviya said that the BJP has always stood firmly with the Namasudra, SC, and Matua communities. It is time for these communities to demand Mahua Moitra’s immediate resignation and launch a larger movement. She must be held to account for insulting SC-ST and Hindu communities.
Congress leader TS Singh Deo also condemned the reported remark against Amit Shah, and told ANI on Saturday, “I have not read the statement. But Mahua Moitra ji has made some objectionable statements in reference to the Home Minister. This is not right.”

A day earlier, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nitin alleged that efforts are underway to “completely change” the demography of Bengal.

“I believe that the use of such words by a woman can help people understand how violent the people sitting in the government today have become and efforts are being made there to change the demography of Bengal and our Home Minister completely is constantly fighting for it, he is fixing those things, so restlessness is visible but she does not know that the Home Minister has everyone’s blessings. No one will be able to harm him.”
On Saturday, launching a scathing attack on TMC and Moitra, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai urged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take punitive action against her and demanded an apology from the West Bengal Chief Minister.
In a post on X, Vishnu Deo Sai shared, “The remark made by the Trinamool Congress MP against the Honourable Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji is not only objectionable but also a serious criminal act. Such audacity to make such remarks would not be possible without the backing of the Trinamool Congress high command and Chief Minister Smt. Mamata Banerjee. Smt. Mamata Banerjee Ji should clarify whether she agrees with Mahua Moitra Ji’s statement or not. If she does not agree, then she should take punitive action against her party leader and apologise to the entire country for this act.”
Furthermore, Raipur’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Lal Umed Singh, stated that an investigation is underway, with further proceedings including the recording of statements and the collection of evidence.

“A complaint has been filed by Gopal Samanto at the Mana police station. Based on that, an FIR has been registered under sections 196 and 197 of the BNS. Further investigation is underway. Further proceedings include recording statements and collecting evidence. If necessary, she will be summoned through a notice,” the SSP Raipur told ANI.
On Thursday, at a Trinamool workers’ meet in Karimpur, Mahua Moitra reportedly said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s “head should be cut off” for failing to check the infiltration of illegal Bangladeshis into India. (ANI)
