Hyderabad (Telangana) [India] May 11 (ANI): Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) G Satheesh Reddy on Sunday highligted that Operation Sindoor showcased the country’s growing self-reliance in defense technologies adding, that the conflict demonstrated India’s capabilities in indigenous technologies and Atmanirbhar-based warfare.
DRDO and industry-developed anti-drone systems played a crucial role in countering the large number of drones used during the conflict. These systems were successfully deployed to neutralize the drone threat.
Speaking to the ANI, Reddy said, “Many indigenous based technologies were used in this war and this war was an Atmanirbhar-based warfare… The anti-drone systems which were developed both by DRDO and industry were very successfully used as huge number of drones were coming in.”
The increased focus on indigenous development and production reduces India’s dependence on foreign defense technologies, enhancing its strategic autonomy.
The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile proved to be an effective, accurate, and reliable weapon. The armed forces were well-trained in its use, and it played a significant role in the conflict.
“Brahmos missile was used as a very effective, accurate and reliable weapon. The armed forces were well trained on this during the development phase and then later during the trials…,” he added.
He also said that the inauguration of a BrahMos missile production facility in Lucknow, capable of producing 100-150 missiles annually, underscores India’s commitment to boosting its defense capabilities.
“Its role was very important and therefore I think today Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has inaugurated a facility in Lucknow to produce 100-150 missiles of Brahmos every year…,” added Reddy.
The facility, set up under the Defence Industrial Corridor initiative, will manufacture BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, boosting India’s defense capabilities and reducing dependence on imports.
Meanwhile, Air Marshal AK Bharti on Sunday said Operation Sindoor effectively destroyed terror camps, achieving its objectives with precision. He stressed that the operations’ impact is evident to the world.
Addressing a press briefing, Air Marshal Bharti said, “Have we achieved our objectives of decimating the terrorist camps, and the answer is a thumping Yes and the results are for the whole world to see.” Air Marshal Bharti on Sunday said the operation Sindoor was aimed at hitting designated targets with precision, “not to count the body bags.”
“Whatever methods and whatever means we have chosen, it had the desired effects on the enemy targets. How many casualties? How many injuries? Our aim was not to inflict casualties, but in case there have been, it is for them to count. Our job is to hit the target, not to count the body bags,” he said.
Air Marshal Bharti said the Indian Armed Forces successfully executed Operation Sindoor, achieving all selected objectives, with all Indian pilots returning safely.
“All I can say is that we have achieved our objectives that we selected and all our pilots are back home,” he said. Air Marshal Bharti said that the Indian Air Force had downed several Pakistani planes while preventing enemy aircraft from breaching Indian airspace.
“Their planes were prevented from entering our border. Definitely, we have downed a few planes. Definitely, there are losses on their side which we have inflicted,” he said.
Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of May 7, targeting nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK).
This operation was a retaliatory response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, including one Nepali national. (ANI)
