Vadodara (Gujarat) [India], September 14 (ANI): Condemning Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s remark that “vote theft can result in Nepal-like unrest”, BJP MP Dinesh Sharma took a dig at former UP chief Minister and said that there are people wishing for violence in the country.
Sharma emphasised that people are vigilant against such harmful elements of society.
“It surprises me to see people wishing for violence in India. Our country’s honourable citizens, led by our leader (PM Modi), are incredibly strong. The people are vigilant against those who try to create unrest,” BJP MP told reporters.
Recalling the incidents which occured during farmers’ protests, CAA protests, Sharma asserted, “These people wanted to spread violence in the farmers’ movement..They tried to incite our dear farmers. But the farmers did not get distracted. They came to know that Modi Ji has taken a strong decision in the matter of tariff for the benefit of farmers. They also tried to incite unrest during the coronavirus pandemic, notebandi and CAA protests and tried to spread unrest during the Waqf amendment.”
He also asserted that in a country like India, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the helm, there is no possibility of specific individuals spreading lawlessness in the country. “It’s impossible to spread chaos in our nation,” added Sharma.
Earlier, SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav warned the Election Commission of India that any attempts at vote theft could lead to public unrest. He drew parallels with the protests by Gen Z in neighbouring Nepal without explicitly naming the country.
During a press conference, Yadav emphasised that the Election Commission must ensure that no votes are stolen. He noted that if such incidents of alleged vote theft are reported, people might take to the streets.
“It’s the Election Commission’s responsibility to ensure that no vote is stolen anywhere… Everyone knows that when they couldn’t win elections through vote theft, they tried to stop the vote with the power of a revolver… If such incidents happen, it’s possible that people here might take to the streets, just like what happened in our neighbouring countries,” said the SP chief.
This is not the first time an opposition leader has expressed the possibility of a Nepal-like protest in India against the Union Government.
Earlier, on September 10, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut cautioned against a similar thing happening in India while referring to the anti-corruption protests in Nepal. Raut alleged the “fire in Nepal”, which has been lit against corruption, dictatorship, and nepotism, could happen in India too, but the reason that no violence has occurred is because people believe in the non-violent ideology of Mahatma Gandhi. He alleged that the Narendra Modi-led government is “surviving because of Gandhi’s ideology.” (ANI)
