New Delhi [India], July 30 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday lambasted Congress during debate on Operation Sindoor in Lok Sabha, alleging that the opposition party “continues to rely on Pakistan for political narratives”, has “compromised on national security” and that Congress-led governments neglected the Sindhu Waters Treaty.
PM Modi referring to remarks of some Congress leaders and accused the party of giving “a clean chit to Pakistan”. He alleged that the party was “shaping its politics even in killing of innocent people in Pahalgam”.
“India is steadily advancing towards self-reliance, while the Congress party, unfortunately, continues to rely on Pakistan for political narratives. Unfortunately, it seems even their issues now need to be ‘imported’ from across the border,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister referred to his government putting the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan in abeyance following the Pahalgam terror attack.
“Previous Congress-led governments neglected the Sindhu Waters Treaty and failed to address the mistakes made during Nehru ji’s era. However, today, India has taken decisive action to rectify those errors. In a historic move, the country has put the Sindhu Waters Treaty in abeyance in the best interests of its citizens and farmers. India has firmly conveyed its stance that blood and water cannot flow together,” he said.
“They were shaping their politics even in the murder of innocent people in Pahalgam. Just 3-4 days after the 22nd April terrorist attack, they (Congress) started jumping up and down. They started saying, “kahan gayi 56 inch ki chhati?” “Kahan kho gaya Modi?” “Modi has failed”…They were shaping their politics even in the murder of innocent people in Pahalgam,” he added.
PM Modi also took a dig at Congress leadership for not fielding its MPs, who were part of India’s outreach through all-party delegations, during the debate on Operation Sindoor.
“What is sad and surprising is that those who consider themselves tall leaders of Congress are rattled by the fact that why India’s perspective was presented before the world. Perhaps a few leaders have been prohibited from speaking in the House,” he said.
PM Modi accused Congress of “appeasement politics” and said much more effective action should have been taken against terrorism during its rule.
“Due to the weak governments of Congress, the country had to lose several lives, and we had to lose our loved ones. Terrorism could have been reined in. Our government had made this happen in 11 years; this is big evidence of the same…A big reason behind terrorism thriving during Congress regime is their politics of appeasement.”
He also hit back at Congress members over their questioning the government on the decision to agree to ceasefire with Pakistan following Operation Sindoor.
“Congress has always compromised on national security. Those who are asking today why PoK was not taken back should first answer whose Govt gave the opportunity to Pakistan to capture PoK. The answer is clear. Whenever I mention Nehru ji, Congress and its ecosystem get rattled…’Lamhon ne khata ki, sadiyon ne saza paayi’. To date, the country is suffering the punishment of all the decisions that were taken since independence,” he said.
PM Modi also slammed Congress MP Praniti Shinde’s now-expunged remark in Lok Sabha.
“She was made to say that Operation Sindoor was a ‘tamasha’. This is like putting acid (on the wounds) of the 26 people killed by terrorists,” he said.
The Prime Minister said that the path to prosperity and peace passes through strength.
“I have said this earlier too that India is a land of ‘Buddha’, not yuddha (war). We want prosperity and peace. But we should never forget that the path to prosperity and peace passes through strength,” the Prime Minister said.
The discussion on Operation Sindoor concluded in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. It will continue in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. (ANI)
