New Delhi [India], January 10 (ANI): Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit lashed out at the Aam Admi Party (AAP) government in Delhi over their conduct during the COVID-19 breakout in 2020, saying that the people of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar were thrown out of the national capital while they nothing to eat or drink.
Dikshit said he witnessed lakhs of people walking at the Delhi border, on the Agra highway, during the pandemic.
“There were long queues (of people from UP and Bihar) at the Delhi border during the COVID-19 breakout. Lakhs of people were walking on the Agra highway. People were walking with their children. They didn’t have anything to eat, or drink and were thrown out of Delhi,” Dikshit, who is a Congress candidate from the New Delhi seat, told ANI.
Speaking on the issue regarding Jaats not being included in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) list in Delhi, Dikshit said there were procedures in place to induct a community into the reservation list, and suggested that the AAP government does their work first instead of writing letters.
“What were they doing for the past 10 years? Why did not they raise the issue of Jaats earlier? When Jaat agitation happened in Haryana, they should have responded by saying that we would get you reservations in Delhi. There are procedures in place to list a new community for reservations. The recommendations are sent to OBC or SC/ST commissions. Delhi government should do that first. He (Arvind Kejriwal) is just writing a letter to PM Modi to show that no one is allowing him to work,” Dikshit said.
Reacting to Trinamool Congress (TMC) extending support to AAP ahead of the assembly polls, Dikshit said that the only reason alliance partners in other states were supporting AAP was because it remains “zero” outside of Delhi and Punjab. Meanwhile, Congress can challenge them at the local level if it gains power in Delhi, he added.
“The alliance partners in other states think that it was possible for Congress to challenge them at the local level if it leaves a mark in Delhi. This is why they are supporting AAP, which remains zero outside of Delhi and Punjab. At least today, these parties (showing support to AAP) don’t have any support base in the national capital,” the Congress leader said.
Earlier, Janta Dal (United) working President Sanjay Kumar Jha on Thursday accused AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal of “hating” the people of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Jha strongly criticised Kejriwal’s recent remarks about “fake voters” from these states and demanded an immediate apology from Kejriwal for his comments.
Meanwhile, Chattar Singh, former OBC Commission chairman of the Delhi Government, accused the BJP and AAP of being “anti-reservation”. Chattar Singh said that Kejriwal seems to lack information or doesn’t want to present it before the people and his own mindset is anti-reservation. (ANI)
