Imphal (Manipur) [India], November 19 (ANI): Amid the ongoing tensions in Manipur, National People’s Party (NPP) National Vice President Yumnam Joykumar on Monday expressed his concern over the law and order situation in the state, saying that their suggestions were not considered by the state government. The state has been facing a serious law and order situation, he added.
While speaking to ANI, Joykumar claimed that the Biren Singh government in Manipur failed to provide security to the people. The state government should think of (providing) permanent houses for displaced people, he added.
“We had given several suggestions to the Manipur government but they were not acted upon. The government and party have not been able to control the law and order situation in the state. The state has been facing a serious law and order situation. We feel that the state government has failed in maintaining law and order and providing security to the people. Confidence-building measures should be taken to bring peace. The state government should think of permanent houses for displaced people. We have also asked for a neutral government in Manipur,” the NPP National Vice President said.
Earlier, Conrad Sangma-led National People’s Party (NPP) on Sunday withdrew its support from the N Biren Singh-led BJP Government in Manipur with immediate effect amid the ongoing tensions in the state.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Sangma wrote a letter to BJP National President JP Nadda and said that the Manipur government under the leadership of Biren Singh has “completely failed to resolve the crisis and restore normalcy.”
“The National People’s Party would like to convey its deep concern over the prevailing law and order situation in the State of Manipur. In the last few days, we have seen the situation further deteriorate where many more innocent lives have been lost and people in the State are going through immense suffering,” the letter said.
Meanwhile, the Manipur government on Monday announced an extension of the temporary suspension of internet and mobile data services in the territorial jurisdiction of Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Kakching, Kangpokpi, Thoubal and Churachandpur.
The suspension has been extended for two days with effect from 5:15 pm today except for those lease lines and FTTH connections to government offices.
In an official statement, the Manipur government stated that this was done after “reviewing the prevailing law and order situation and its possible co-relation with the general operation of internet suspension in the last two days, decided to continue the suspension of internet and mobile data services, including VSATS, broadband (IILL & FTTH) and VPN services.”
The suspension will continue till 5:15 pm on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. (ANI)
