Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], April 23 (ANI): Samir Guha, a resident of Kolkata, was killed by the terrorists in the Pahalgam attack on Tuesday.
According to Subrata Ghosh, the brother-in-law of Samir Guha, his sister and niece are safe and will return to Kolkata on Wednesday night.
“They were on a family trip. My sister and niece are safe. My brother-in-law has died. They have left from there and will reach Kolkata tonight…”, he told ANI.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also expressed condolences to the families and assured them of the state’s support during this difficult time.
In a post on X, Mamata Banerjee wrote, “As per the latest updated information made available to us, three persons from our State have died in the most unfortunate Kashmir violence. Our administration at Delhi Airport is making all necessary arrangements to assist the family members of the victims and facilitate their onward journey to Kolkata. The flight is likely to arrive in Kolkata at 8:30 pm today. Our Resident Commissioner’s office in Delhi is in touch with the family members. I am personally overseeing, and our senior officers are working hands-on.
“A grim hour for all of us. Our victims are: Bitan Adhikari (of Baishnabghata, Kolkata), Samir Guha (Sakher Bazar, Kolkata), and Manish Ranjan (Jhalda, Purulia). No words are enough as a condolence for their families, even while my heart goes out to them. We stand by the families,” the post further reads.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) is likely to discuss the issue of security in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, following the brutal terror attack in the region, sources from the Defence Ministry have informed on Wednesday.
The Cabinet Committee on Security discusses and debates defence policy, expenditure, and all matters of national security for India. It is the highest decision-making body for appointing heads of national security agencies, as well.
The meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar as part of the committee. The National Security Advisor, Cabinet Secretary and Defence Secretary also attend the meetings.
Earlier, in the aftermath of the tragic terror attack that led to the death of many innocent lives on Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday reviewed the security situation at the site of the terror attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow. Union Minister first took an aerial stock of the region as he arrived at the site by helicopter.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also chaired a meeting with NSA Ajit Doval, Air Force’s Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, and other officials, discussing the security situation in the region.
“The meeting discussed all issues related to the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The issue is expected to be discussed in further detail in the Cabinet Committee on Security meeting, likely to be held today,” the source told ANI. (ANI)
