New Delhi [India], September 12 (ANI): The Congress on Thursday released its fifth list of two candidates for the upcoming Haryana Assembly election. With the latest list, the party has declared the names of 88 candidates for elections to the 90-member Assembly. In the remaining two seats, the Congress will support its alliance partners.
The candidates announced in the fifth list are Naresh Selwal from Uklana and Jasbir Singh (Jessi Petwar) from Narnaund. The Congress late Wednesday night released a list of five candidates for the election.
The party has fielded Parimal Pari from Ambala Cantt, Sachin Kundu from Panipat Rural, Satbir Dublain from Narwana (SC), Sarva Mitra Kamboj from Rania and Rohit Nagar from Tigaon.
Earlier in the day, the Congress announced its third list of 40 candidates. Among the candidates announced in the third list are Chander Mohan from Panchkula, Nirmal Singh from Ambala, Pooja Chaudhary from Maulana, Akram Khan from Jagadhri, Rahul Makkar from Hansi, Manisha Sangwan from Dadri, Jagdish Yadav from Kosli, and Lakhan Kumar Singhla from Faridabad.
On Thursday, the Aam Aadmi Party also released its sixth list of 19 candidates for the Haryana Assembly elections. The party has declared its candidates for all 90 seats. Earlier, there were talks on seat-sharing between the AAP and Congress, but the two INDIA bloc partners couldn’t reach an agreement.
The last date for filing nominations is September 12. The voting for the 90-member legislative assembly in Haryana will be held on October 5. Votes will be counted on October 8.
Earlier, former wrestler and Congress candidate from Julana Assembly constituency, Vinesh Phogat, filed a nomination for the upcoming Assembly elections in Haryana.
Phogat filed her nomination in the presence of Congress MP Deepender Hooda and other state leaders of the party. She expressed her gratitude to the people of the constituency for their love and emphasised the party’s commitment to work for the welfare of every section.
“It is a matter of good fortune for me that I am entering politics. We are working hard for the welfare of every section. I am grateful for the love the people of Jualana are giving me,” Phogat said while speaking to reporters after filing her nomination.
In 2019, the Bharatiya Janata Party emerged as the single-largest party with 40 seats, while Congress was a close second with 30 seats. BJP formed the government in alliance with the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP). However, the alliance broke earlier this year, following which BJP formed the government with other smaller parties.
BJP has been in power in Haryana for 10 years. Manohar Lal Khattar served as the Chief Minister of Haryana for nine and a half years. But, he tendered his resignation in June this year, handing over the reins to Nayab Singh Saini.
Khattar contested the Lok Sabha elections and is serving as Union Minister of Urban and Housing Affairs. (ANI)
