New Delhi [India], October 2 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Senior Divisional Engineer of the North Eastern Railway in Varanasi for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh.
A case was registered by CBI on October 1 based on a complaint against the accused official on allegations that a private firm of the complainant has been awarded two tenders of approx. Rs. 4 crore by the official on July 25, 2024, for maintenance of railway tracks from Thawe to Chhapra, CBI said.
The central bureau said that in a press release that it was alleged that the accused demanded a bribe of Rs. 2 lakh from the complainant and threatened to obstruct the work and not pass his bills in the future unless the bribe amount was paid.
CBI laid a trap and caught the accused while demanding and accepting undue advantage of Rs. 2 lakhs from the complainant. The accused was arrested and will be produced before the Court of Learned Special Judge, CBI Court No. 3, Lucknow, on Wednesday.
Searches were also conducted by CBI at the residential premises of the accused. (ANI)
