New Delhi [India], September 2 (ANI): Aam Admi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh on Monday accused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of forcibly arresting AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan on Monday.
He warned that this move will cost the BJP which would end up losing the upcoming Delhi assembly election.
In a post on social media platform X, he said, “This bullying will cost BJP people dearly. You will lose badly in Delhi. @KhanAmanatullah has been forcibly arrested without any evidence.”
Earlier on Monday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) detained Aam Aadmi Party MLA, Amanatullah Khan. The investigative agency first arrived at his residence to conduct a raid.
The matter pertains to irregularities in the Waqf properties. Khan is the Chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board.
As ED officials took the AAP MLA from his home, Amanatullah Khan shouted out to his supporters, “I am innocent.”
Earlier today, AAP MLA’s cousin Minnatullah Khan said that despite investigations by the Anti-Corruption Bureau and Central Bureau of Investigation, nothing has been found yet.
He said, “His mother-in-law has been operated on recently, she is a cancer patient. Despite investigation by ACB and CBI, nothing has been found yet…Now ED is investigating.”
In a self-made video, the AAP MLA said that the investigative agency has been continuously harassing him for the past two years.
In another post on X, Sanjay Singh expressed happiness over the Supreme Court’s decision granting bail to Vijay Nair in a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy case.
“Satyamev Jayate! The BJP central government conspired against the Aam Aadmi Party and put many party leaders in jail. But after Manish Sisodia and Vijay Nair got bail, it proved that truth can be troubled but cannot be defeated.” he said on X
Today, a bench of Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice SVN Bhatti granted bail to Nair, noting that he is in custody for 23 months in the matter.
“The universal proposition of bail being the rule and jail being the exception will be entirely defeated if the petitioner is kept in custody as an under trial for a long duration,” the top court said.
The top court said that Vijay Nair deserved bail subject to conditions given in Manish Sisodia and K Kavitha bail orders.
The Supreme Court said that the right of liberty under Article 21 is a sacrosanct right that requires respect even in cases where stringent provisions are enacted under special laws.
“In the case at hand, the petitioner is in custody for 23 months, and his incarceration as under trial cannot be a mode of punishment without trial being commenced,” the top court said.
Nair was arrested by CBI initially in September 2022 and later by ED in the matter. He has sought bail on the ground of parity that co-accused Manish Sisodia has been granted bail and trial has not been commenced in the matter. Nair counsel also submitted that his client should not continue in incarceration and deserved to be released on bail. (ANI)
