Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], September 10 (ANI): Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Gujarat has taken a major step towards realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’ through its own ‘Viksit Gujarat @2047’ initiative.
Following the model of NITI Aayog, the Gujarat State Institution for Transformation, or ‘GRIT,’ has been established.
To achieve Viksit Gujarat as part of Viksit Bharat @2047, the state government has crafted a dynamic vision document and roadmap for Viksit Gujarat @2047.
GRIT will serve as a think tank, providing leadership and strategic direction to ensure both short-term and long-term goals of the vision document are met. The Chief Minister will head the Governing Body of GRIT, with the Finance Minister as Vice-Chairman and the Ministers of Agriculture, Health, Education, and Industry serving as members, according to an official statement.
Additionally, the governing body will include the Chief Advisor to the Chief Minister, the Chief Secretary, and the Additional Chief Secretary or Principal Secretary of the Finance and Planning Departments.
Experts in fields such as agriculture, finance and economic affairs, industrial infrastructure, health and nutrition, skill development and employment, and education will also be nominated by the state government.
A retired or serving Additional Chief Secretary-level officer will serve as the Chief Executive Officer and Member Secretary of GRIT’s Governing Body. This CEO will be appointed by the state government, added the statement.
The scope of work for the Gujarat State Institution for Transformation (GRIT) is to review the implementation of recommendations from the Task Force Committee aimed at achieving a five-trillion-dollar economy and oversee and recommend strategies for balanced economic growth across sectors such as industry, agriculture, investment, and exports.
GRIT is also to review, assess, and supervise state schemes and programs, identify areas for improvement, and provide recommendations aligned with the long-term vision of the “Viksit Gujarat @2047” roadmap and promote good governance to ensure consistent policy-making and decision-making in line with the priorities outlined in the State Vision Document.
The Gujarat State Institution for Transformation will also recommend key focus areas for long-term, comprehensive development, suggest new development initiatives by enhancing coordination between State Government Departments, the Government of India, NITI Aayog, civil society, and other stakeholders and propose strategies for multidimensional development, and review successful policies and best practices from national and international contexts.
GRIT will also be responsible for collaborating with leading organizations for cross-sectoral partnerships, knowledge-sharing, and capacity-building programs, encouraging the integration of cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, the Internet of Things, Robotics, GIS, Drone Technology, and Blockchain and also to advise the State Government on mechanisms to mobilize financial resources for state development through asset monetization, international financial institutions, CSR Trust Funds, and other sources.
To ensure effective implementation of ‘GRIT’s’ work, a governing body and an executive committee will be established. The 10-member Executive Committee will handle day-to-day operations and oversee the execution of recommendations and decisions made by the governing body.
The CEO of ‘GRIT’ will chair this committee, with the Secretary of the Planning Division in the General Administration Department serving as the convener. The Governing Body will meet at least once a year and as needed, at the Chairman’s discretion.
The Executive Committee will hold quarterly meetings. The General Administration Department-Planning Division will issue a formal resolution outlining the composition and scope of ‘GRIT.’ (ANI)
