Karnal (Haryana) [India], August 30 (ANI): BJP MP from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut hit back at Shiromani Akali Dal President (SAD) Sardar Simranjit Singh Mann for “trivialising rape”
Expressing her anger the actor-turned-politician expressed her outrage on X and posted, “It seems this country will never stop trivialising rape, today this senior politician compared getting raped to riding a bicycle no wonder rapes and violence against women for fun, is so deep-rooted in the psyche of this patriarchal nation that it is casually used to tease or mock women even if she is a high profile filmmaker or politician.”
Earlier, Mann made objectionable remarks about the actor-turned-politician over her ‘Bangladesh-like situation’ statement. She criticised the farmers’ protest against the now-repealed agricultural laws. Ranaut suggested that a “Bangladesh-like situation” could have occurred in India if not for the country’s strong leadership. She claimed that during the farmers’ protest, there were incidents of “bodies hanging and rapes taking place.”
Making a derogatory remark about actor-politician Kangana Ranaut, Simranjit Singh Mann said, “I do not want to say, Kangana Ranaut has a lot of experience with rape. You can ask her how it happens. People should be educated on how rape occurs.”
Mann is being criticised over his remarks, with former NCW chief Rekha Sharma saying, “These types of people should be cut out of society.”
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwat Mann on Thursday responded to the MP’s remarks, telling her that Ranaut was elected to solve the issues of her parliamentary constituency, Mandi, and not to make “absurd” and “baseless” remarks.
“People elected her as an MP to resolve the issues of Mandi constituency, and not to make absurd and baseless statements that would create unrest in society. It is an incorrect statement; an MP should not make such statements that would hurt someone,” said the Punjab Chief Minister.
The MP from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi stoked controversy recently by suggesting that the farmers’ protests could have led to a Bangladesh-like crisis in the country if the leadership was not strong enough.
After Ranaut’s statement, the party also distanced itself from the statement and asked her to refrain from giving such statements in the future.
“BJP should not just say that it is a statement made in a personal capacity, they should also control this…If you make such absurd statements, then naturally there will be anger. So, I would like to tell the BJP Government to control its MPs…All kinds of statements are made for farmers’ protest, this is intolerable,” added the Punjab CM.
Meanwhile, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has sent a legal notice to Kangana and the producers of the film ‘Emergency’, alleging misrepresentation of the history of Sikhs in the film. The film is set to release on September 6, in which Ranaut portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Protesters have also burnt the effigy of Kangana Ranaut in Bathinda. Sikh leader Gurdeep Singh said that Kangana Ranaut is spreading hatred against the farmers and Sikhs of the country. (ANI)
