Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 31 (ANI): The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday said that in the history of independent India, being deprived of power for a long time has caused the leaders of the Congress party to “lose their mental balance.”
“Despite Congress’s continuous false allegations and slanderous remarks against the Bharatiya Janata Party, the people of India have overwhelmingly welcomed the BJP in every corner of the country,” the Assam BJP said in a statement.
Assam BJP chief spokesperson Kishore Upadhyay said that Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has lost his sense of propriety and has gravely insulted the respected mother of India’s esteemed Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“During an election rally held at Darbhanga, Bihar, ahead of the upcoming state elections, Rahul Gandhi used extremely derogatory language about the Prime Minister’s mother. This is not only condemnable but also deeply unfortunate. His remarks are an insult not only to the Prime Minister’s late mother but to the entire community of mothers and women across the country. By resorting to such petty politics, Rahul Gandhi has stooped so low that he did not even spare the late mother of the Prime Minister. This shameful act by Congress once again exposes its long-standing hypocritical character and regressive mindset towards women,” Upadhyay said in the statement.
In protest against Rahul Gandhi’s derogatory comments, the BJP Assam Pradesh has announced a massive statewide agitation.
Earlier in the day, he said that BJP workers staged a protest in Guwahati against the derogatory remarks.
“On September 1, 2025, the BJP will organise district-level protest programs across Assam against this condemnable act of Congress. Today, under the initiative of the BJP Guwahati Metropolitan District, a Rajiv Bhawan Gherao program was carried out at the Congress headquarters in Guwahati. Hundreds of BJP karyakartas protested against Rahul Gandhi and the Congress, demanding that Rahul Gandhi unconditionally apologise before the people of India. BJP workers blackened the portraits of Rahul Gandhi and All India Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, warning them to refrain from such disgraceful acts in the future. The protest echoed with slogans like ‘Rahul Gandhi Go Back,’ ‘Gaurav Gogoi Go Back,’ ‘Rahul Gandhi Murdabad,’ ‘Gaurav Gogoi Murdabad,’ ‘Congress Murdabad, ‘” said in the press release.
The protest was attended by BJP State Vice President Ashok Kumar Bhattacharya, Councillor and Vice President Ratna Singh, Vice President Juri Sharma Bordoloi, BJP Media Convenor and Chairman of Assam Financial Corporation Rupam Goswami, ASTC Vice Chairman Pranabjyoti Lahkar, BJYM State President Rakesh Das, BJP Mahila Morcha President Nilima Devi, Guwahati Metropolitan District President Tapan Das, along with various district and state-level leaders and workers.
